3D Modeling & 3D Printing
(Some of) The Things We Do
My team and I handle a wide range of creative projects.
From photography, videography and graphic design, to decal creation, large-format paper printing, laminating, 3D modeling, and 3D printing, we're able to do it all.
We're the ones who action requests that come in when people need something to help improve the training and learning experiences of their trainees.
That means taking a request, working with the client to make sure we're creating what they need vs. what they think they may want (because those aren't always the same thing), designing it, creating it, and finally, delivering it.
I really enjoy working on 3D modeling and 3D printing. It's a hobby as well as being part of my work. I'll often create and print things at home and bring them in to help fire up the imaginations of people who stop by our office by showing them what's possible with 3D printing.
My colleagues are also getting cross-trained on everything in the shop, so we can all pitch in to get things done.
Practice & Learning
This is a fun project that a few of my teammates and I are working on.
We had a request come in for us to design and 3D-print a replica of a pair of pump switches (with clickable buttons).
We were given a couple of pictures with a ruler in them for scale and away we went.
LEARNING & DOING
My colleagues are learning to 3D model and 3D print, so this is a functional learning project for all of us!
We'll take the best elements of each of our digital designs and incorporate those into the final model that we print and delver :-)
SOFTWARE
The software we're using to do this is called Shapr3D - it's powered by the same engine as SolidWorks, but licensing is a fraction of the cost, AND it's cross-platform compatible.
The design to the right is one I started creating on my iPad and then finished on my home computer.
PROTOTYPING
And the fun thing is that I've got a prototype 3D-printed already...and I need to modify a few things then re-print the faceplate, but that's all part of the process :-)
