The Humbling Haiku Generator
The Motivation
This idea came to me while I was walking the picket line on Day 5 of my Union being on strike.
In the 8 days of the strike, I walked just over 80 KM on the picket line and had a lot of time (32 hours on the line) to think.
Everyone involved in the strike had ego in the game. The negotiations dragged on for over two years. Both sides were refusing to move from their positions, and after two years, you know that there was definitely ego at the bargaining table.
Seeing some humility from either side would have been refreshing. Instead, we got bombastic speeches, awkwardly delivered (and obviously scripted) messages that were meant to rouse us to feel angry or shocked (but didn't), and social media shenanigans that were as predictable as they were transparent.
Having spent some time in Japan and experienced a great deal of humbling and humility while I was there, I felt that a Haiku would be a great format for conveying a humbling message to one's self (or someone you know who could use a bit of humility).
We could all use some more humility.
How to Use It
Type in a name.
Click the Haiku me! button.
Exercise your patience. It can take a few moments to generate your Humbling Haiku.
Save it to your clipboard if you so choose.
Share it (if you are confident enough!)
PLEASE NOTE: It can sometimes take 10+ seconds for the Haiku to appear (depending on how busy the servers are). If you're waiting longer than that, just retype the name and try again.
How was this created?
This web app was created in about an hour. I'm not a proficient programmer, so I leveraged Pico - if you've got an idea in your head but don't have the programming chops to bring it to life, this is a very good tool for you to explore. I'm definitely a fan :-)
It took me just 9 prompts to get this app to where I was happy with it!
